State: Idaho Tourist Info

Idaho offers a lot more for its visitors that just the world's largest potatoes farm offering you the chance to "Pluck Your Own Spud". The truth is that Idaho offers many activities to appeal to a wide variety of people. Let's look at some of these opportunities and see why Idaho is known as "the Buried Treasure State". The unique offerings of Idaho are what have it included on the listing of must visit destination here on boston2portland.com

Idaho Falls is one of the largest town in the state with a population of over 50,000 people. One of the most charming aspects of the city is the welcome sign that reads "Attention Tourist: Do Not Laugh at the Natives". While this may seem funny at first (and with a bit of honesty it is meant in a lighthearted fashion) it is enforced by the local law enforcement if situations get out of hand. The city is home to the Idaho National Laboratory and Associated Industries. This was originally the National Reactor Testing Station. The location of this facility allowed the town of Arco, ID, which is located nearby, to be the world's first municipality to be entirely powered by nuclear power which occurred in 1955.

The Rainey Creek Country Store & Square Ice Cream shop is one of the most popular attractions in the state. The facility is really just a country store, gas station, and ice cream parlor, but the fact that the shop sells more than 500 ice cream cones and hour on holiday weekends and at least 150 an hour during normal business operations make this a must stop location. The store is charming and offers a look at simple small town country life that is often lost in the fast paced modern world.

As mentioned earlier, for those who are looking an activity, which is a bit more of the tourist trap kind of thing. The state is home to the worlds largest privately owned potato farm, This farm allows visitors to learn all about the potato industry, farming in general and how the nation is able to keep up with the demand that has for more than a billion pounds of potatoes and potato products a year. The farm also allows visitors to pick some potatoes of their own and take them home with them to enjoy.

White water river tours on the Snake River offer you the chance to see all of the majesty, beauty and excitement of one of Americas most diverse and vibrant river systems. These tours offer the opportunity to see abundant wildlife, natural features and incredible falls and rapids. The tours start out with a ride by 4x4 to a landing area where rafts are boarded and taken down the river as far as Hells Canyon State Park. The tour ends in a reservoir, and weather permitting, you are allowed to strip down to your bathing suit and go for a swim in the cool, clean, crystal clear river water.

Idaho is a great place to visit if you are interested in true rustic living, off the wall activities, western culture, and traditional mountain living. For those who are looking for a decidedly different vacation opportunity that will take you away from it all, there is not better choice than a vacation in Idaho.
