Speed Limits in the US

When on that great trip across the country, there is one piece of information that you will need to make sure you have and that is the speed limits for the states that you will be traveling through. Many states have different minimum and maximum limits that are listed from state to state. This is why is important that you know the limit for the particular states that your travels will take you through.

The national average is 55 miles per hour. This is many times the accepted average that will keep you from getting into trouble. While it is a safe bet to just travel this speed throughout your travels, why not open your vehicle up and take full advantage of the higher limits posted in other parts of the country. After all taking advantage of these limits, will in many cases allow you to enjoy your trip better as you have more time per activity to spend when traveling.

There are some exceptions to these limits. If you are driving a large vehicle such as an R.V, then you will need to slow down and travel at 55. This is to help keep you as well as the other drivers safe. Here at boston2portland.com you are able to get all of the information that you need to know in an attempt to make sure that your trip does not become a disaster after having to pay for a speeding ticket.

Another exception is that of a person driving at night, there are often reduced speed limits for states that have a high speed limit during the day. One example is Texas; the daytime speed limit is 80 miles per hour. At night, this drops down to 65. The reason for the reduction is to help ensure that a person is driving at a safe speed so they can see at night. It is more difficult to see at night than during the day. This is the reasoning behind the slower limit. It is important that you know this in advance and abide by it strictly.

One of the biggest areas of concern is a person that will be traveling at one speed and transition into a state that has a reduced speed limit. Make sure that you are paying attention to the states that you are entering and leaving. This will help you make sure that you do not have any issues.

While many will argue that speed limits are not needed, there are those that will argue that this is what helps save lives. It has been a struggle over the years, but the limits are being increased as more and more drivers enter the road and the number of fatalities has seen a steady drop. This is a clear sign that many of these drivers are showing that they are able to handle the higher limits without any issue and concern.

No trip should be ruined due to ignorance to the speed limit laws. A little research and planning will help ensure that you are getting the most from your trip and that you will not be forking over some of your travel money to pay for a speeding ticket.
